FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. WHAT IS MISSING SCENES?
Missing Scenes is a charity zine focused on portraying missing moments between the canon scenes depicted in the ABC television show 9-1-1.
We are aiming for Missing Scenes to have a physical print, so contributors must apply and be accepted to participate in the zine.Q. WHAT CONTENT IS ALLOWED?
Content for Missing Scenes can include canon compliant, canon divergent, or canon adjacent ideas that could feasibly exist within the main 9-1-1 universe, depicted through art and writing. 9-1-1: Lone Star and 9-1-1: Nashville will not be included in this project.
All content must be rated PG-13/TV-14 or lower, meaning it must be compliant with what could feasibly air on the show itself. Minimal gore, violence, and sexual themes are allowed, as long as they are not explicit and are in line with the canon typical content.Q. ARE GEN AI WORKS ALLOWED IN THE ZINE?
No. All works must be created by the artist or writer themselves. Works made with Midjourney, Chat-GPT, or other gen-AI programs or LLMs will be rejected and the participant will be removed from the project.Q. ARE ANY SHIPS NOT ALLOWED?
All canon relationships, as well as both Buddie and BuckTommy, will be allowed within the zine. We understand that this is a rocky situation to navigate, but as the focus of the zine is on missing scenes from the show, we felt that no characters should be left out.
That being said, all contributors must remain respectful and understanding of each other and their shipping preferences. No fandom drama, character/ship bashing, or infighting will be allowed in the server or as part of the zine. This is meant to be a fun project and a safe space for contributors to create and be involved in.
If any of these infractions (drama, bashing, infighting, etc) occur, the participant(s) will be removed from the project.Q. HOW WILL YOU MAKE SURE THE ZINE DOESN’T FOCUS ON ONE CHARACTER/SHIP?
We will utilize a pitch system to ensure we have a variety and mixture of content. Once applicants are accepted, we will have them submit three diverse ideas of what they would like to make for the zine, and mods will determine which single pitch is developed. Pitches must be diverse in characters AND ships. As of now, we will have limits on how many times a ship can appear, but no limits on characters. If this proves to be an issue, mods will put a limit on characters as well so that, at minimum, all main characters have the opportunity to be represented within the zine. Pitch acceptance will be done on a first-come-first-serve basis once all contributors have been accepted and given the opportunity to submit.Q. WILL YOU HAVE GUEST ARTISTS/WRITERS?
Yes! They are currently being posted. You can see their intros here.Q. HOW MANY CONTRIBUTORS WILL BE INVOLVED?
We are looking to include a total of 35 contributors; 25 artists and 10 writers, including the guests.Q. WHAT CHARITY ARE YOU PLANNING TO SUPPORT?
All zine profits, after production costs, will be going to a charity that will be voted on by all contributors!Q. WHAT ARE THE ZINE SPECS?
The zine will be A5 (5.8” x 8.3”)!Q. CAN I APPLY FOR MULTIPLE ROLES?
You can, but applicants will only be accepted into one role (art or writing). Page artists will have the opportunity to create one page illustration and one merch item depending on their application preference, but due to page restrictions, writers may only complete one piece of writing.
If an applicant drops out and a pinch hitter is unavailable, contributors may provide multiple pieces.Q. HOW CAN I APPLY?
Anyone 14+ is welcome to apply. You must have a Discord account to be able to participate, as all communications will happen within the server. An account is not required during the application process, but will be required if accepted.
Applications to apply will be linked on the carrd, and they will close on July 23rd at 11:59pm EST.
The application guidelines are also included on this carrd.
While we would love to accept every person into this zine, physical zines require us to limit how many contributors are involved to keep consumer expenses low.
Once applications close, moderators will go through all applications and determine who will be the best fit for the project. Acceptance/rejection emails will be sent by July 30th at 11:59pm EST. Those accepted will receive a Discord invite where further discussions of the project will take place.Q. AS A CONTRIBUTOR, HOW WILL I BE COMPENSATED?
Our goal is to provide each contributor with at least a physical copy of the zine. Whether a full bundle and shipping are included will depend on sales.Q. HOW DO I BUY THE ZINE?
TBD!Q. CAN I POST WIPS OR PREVIEWS, OR STREAM WHILE I’M WORKING ON MY PIECE?
Mods respectfully ask that all previews and snippets of contributor work be kept a secret until we are ready to share previews. This means that you cannot work on your piece while streaming in any capacity. We want to save the surprise for the zine! Once mods give the okay to share previews, we ask that no more than 30% of the piece is shared for artists, and no more than 250 words for writers. Mods will also provide a preview template for both artists and writers once we get closer to sharing previews.Q. CAN I POST AND/OR SELL MY FINISHED PIECE?
We ask that full, finished pieces not be posted until the conclusion of the zine, which would include posting on a shop. However, once all pre-orders, production, and potential leftover sales have concluded, contributors can do whatever they’d like with their piece!Q. WILL ALIVE!BOBBY BE ALLOWED IN SEASON 8 WORKS FOR THE ZINE?
Yes, if that’s what you’d like to do! Canon left enough wiggle room for this to fit within our constraints, so feel free to bring him back in whatever way you wish. Or leave him as is if you prefer, and we’ll see where season 9 takes us.Q. HOW DOES A GUEST DIFFER FROM A REGULAR CONTRIBUTOR?
Guest Artists/Writers are those that are invited ahead of time to be a part of the zine without going through the application process. Most zines include guests as a way to help market the zine. All other artists and writers will need to go through the application process.
